COHEN PUBLISHED IN NATURE METABOLISM

HOT OFF THE PRESSES - “MICU proteins facilitate calcium-dependent mitochondrial metabolon formation to regulate cellular energetics independently of MCU” is the lab’s newest publication is featured in Nature Metabolism.

In this study, we report that MICU proteins act as molecular organizers, assembling energy-generating machinery in response to calcium signals without requiring calcium to enter the mitochondrial matrix. These findings redefine our understanding of how calcium regulates metabolism at a fundamental level and may have broad implications for diseases ranging from heart failure to cancer and neurodegeneration.
